Choosing a Galapagos Cruise

There are several factors to take in to consideration when choosing a Galapagos Cruise:

  • Boat size – a smaller boat provides a more intimate experience while a larger ship moves less in the water for those prone to sea sickness. A catamaran tends to offer the benefits of both options.
  • Sail boat vs. motor boat – all boats need to use their motor to travel between visitor sites, so a sailboat may be more quaint, but you’ll be using the motor most any time you’re moving.
  • Price – you get what you pay for in the Galapagos in the form of a more comfortable boat and higher quality guides.
  • Itinerary and length of tour – different boats have different itineraries and duration that go to different islands and visitor spots.

Beginning Your Cruise

Your cruise will commence from one of two airports from which operate in the Galapagos Islands. One is located on the Island of Baltra the other on San Cristobal. All flights go via either Quito or Guayaquil, on the Ecuador mainland. You will be met by your boat crew at the appropriate airport and escorted directly to your ship, where your adventure will begin.

Once aboard your chosen boat or cruise ship you will begin your journey following the given itinerary, anchoring at specific points of interest. While anchored, you can be ferried ashore to various landing points and pristine beaches or take advantage of spectacular snorkeling and diving opportunities. Naturalist guides will accompany you on Island walks to discover the marvels which exist upon these seldom seen shores. The will begin to fill you in on all the need to know history and others information about the Galapagos and its unique flora and fauna.

The Islands are renowned for their unique plant life and vast number of native species existing nowhere else in the world. Amongst these include; red and blue-footed boobies, frigate birds, giant colorful tortoises, flamingos as well as marine and land iguanas.
